Kelly Harnett and the Spiro Sisters bring Skin to Sundance
When audioEngine’s Kelly Harnett first sat down to mix Jordana Spiro’s latest short film, Skin, she thought it was just another day at the office. One look at the film’s gorgeous cinematography and one listen to composer Todd Maki’s sound design made Harnett realize the project was truly something special:
“The film’s storyline and imagery are incredibly tender – there’s an emotional shift between the characters that stays with you. I knew I needed to bring a nuance and a subtlety to the mix, to surround the story with a soundscape as beautiful as the picture.”
Harnett worked long into the night with director Jordana Spiro and producer Naomi Spiro to make that happen. In Harnett’s skilled hands, the films stirring music, sparse, delicate dialogue and rich sound design became integrated and seamless. The result – as Harnett and the rest of the film’s crew discovered when the Sundance Institute chose Skin as an official selection at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival – was a film moving enough to earn critical acclaim before it even premieres.
Skin will premier on January 18th at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, with subsequent screenings on January 20th and 25th before the festival wraps on the 27th. Screenings in New York and around the country will be announced in the coming weeks.
